Free vs Pro
Recorded is free to download, and you can record and edit without an account. The free plan limits exports by length and adds light branding; Pro removes both.

All editing features — auto zoom, cursor customization, backgrounds, webcam overlay, text, AI captions, speed control, motion blur, and background music — are available on both plans. The differences are export length, the watermark and outro, and share-link limits.
When you try to export or share a video that is 25 seconds or longer without Pro, Recorded asks you to sign in (if you aren’t already) and then to get a Pro license. Shorter videos export immediately with the free branding.
Activating a License
Through Purchase
- Click Get Pro License in Settings > Account & License, or buy Pro (monthly or yearly) from the pricing section on the Recorded website
- Sign in to your Recorded account in the app (Settings > Account & License) with the same email you used to purchase
- Your Pro license is activated automatically based on your account
With a Coupon Code
- Sign in under Settings > Account & License
- Click Redeem Coupon and enter your coupon code
- The code activates Pro features immediately
Discount codes are different from coupon codes — use discount codes on the checkout page when you purchase.
Devices
A license can have a device limit. If you reach it, Recorded shows a warning and Pro features are unavailable on the new device until you remove a device you no longer use:
- Purchased licenses: Click Manage devices to manage activations on your LemonSqueezy order page.
- Coupon licenses: Manage your registered devices directly in Settings > Account & License.
License Validation
Recorded validates your license periodically:
- License status is cached locally and re-validated at most once every 24 hours
- You don’t need to be online continuously to use the app
- Click Refresh in Settings > Account & License to re-check your license immediately (for example, right after purchasing)
Checking Status
View your current license status in Settings > Account & License. This shows:
- Whether you’re on Free or Pro
- Your account email
- License details such as the key, expiration date, and device count (for Pro licenses)
