Quality Settings

Recorded keeps recording simple: there are no capture quality settings to tune. Quality choices happen at export time, after you’ve edited your video.

Frame Rate

The capture frame rate is set automatically and can’t be changed:

  • macOS: 60 FPS
  • Windows: 30 FPS

When you export to MP4, the editor renders the final video at 60 FPS on both platforms, so zoom, cursor, and transition animations look smooth. GIF exports let you choose 10, 15, or 24 FPS.

Capture Resolution

Recorded captures at your display’s native resolution automatically — on a Retina or other high-DPI display, it records the full physical pixel resolution. On very large displays, the capture is scaled down proportionally to stay within H.264 encoder limits.

Export Resolution

During export, you choose the output resolution:

ResolutionDimensions (16:9)Notes
720p1280 x 720Compact files, good for web sharing
1080p1920 x 1080Full HD — the default MP4 export resolution
1440p2560 x 1440Sharp detail for high-density displays
4K3840 x 2160Ultra HD — maximum clarity
OriginalSource resolutionKeeps the recording’s own dimensions
RetinaPhysical pixel resolutionShown only for recordings made on high-DPI displays

GIF exports offer 480p, 720p, Original, and Retina. See Export Resolution & Quality for details.

Performance Tips

  • Close unnecessary applications before recording to free up CPU and memory resources.
  • Choose Monitor mode when possible — it is the most efficient capture mode on most systems.
  • Ensure adequate disk space — long recordings can use several gigabytes before you export.
  • Hardware acceleration is used automatically for recording and export when a compatible encoder is available. See Hardware Acceleration for details.
